Sync Status (24)

📝 TLDR

Whalesync now gives you visibility into updates it's actively syncing.

👀 Sync Status

One of our most requested features was to give more visibility into the status of syncing. Now, with Sync Status, you can see the exact number of updates Whalesync has remaining.

Additionally, a red icon will appear whenever your base has any issues.

Together, these changes should make it easier to understand what's happening in the background.

👐 Welcome to Whalesync Modal

When you sign up for Whalesync, we now have a short dialog that welcomes you to the product and shares important resources.

🐞 Bug Fixes

Updated the "how to get base sharing link" guide with new Airtable screenshots

Airtable updated the UI that lets you get a base sharing link. The tutorial in our setup flow had screenshots from the old UI. These have been updated.

➡️ What’s Next

Two-way sync is coming soon! That's our top priority.

Retry Syncing Button (23)

📝 TLDR

You can now trigger retry syncing from the Issues page. This lets you tell Whalesync to re-attempt syncing if you think an issue has been fixed.

🔁 Retry syncing button

We added a "Retry Syncing" button to the Issues page. When syncing fails due to an issue, it can leave your data out of sync. Every hour Whalesync will automatically retry syncing to bring failed attempts back in line. Now you can trigger that retry yourself.

This is really helpful if you've fixed issues in your data and want to quickly see those fixed records get synced.

👀 Field mapping compatibility sections

We made it clearer whether a field is "compatible" or "incompatible" on the field mapping page.

⚠️ First-time sync tips

Added a pop-up before you turn syncing on for the first time that shares a few important notes to keep in mind.

🐞 Bug Fixes

Auto-navigate to the edit fields page only if you add/edit table mappings

Previously if you made any updates on the table mappings page it would navigate you to the edit fields page. This was confusing if you deleted a table mapping, so in that case, we no longer navigate you there.

➡️ What’s Next

We don't have a release date yet, but we're heavily focused on two-way sync 🙂.

Airtable View Syncing! (22)

📝 TLDR

We added our most highly requested feature (maybe ever)... Airtable view syncing!

🔭 Airtable View Syncing

You can now sync just an Airtable view instead of the entire table. We added a dropdown in the setup flow that lets you choose any views you would like to sync. For example, you may want to create a "published view" in Airtable and only sync those specific records to Webflow.

For more details see our docs: https://docs.whalesync.com/features/airtable-view-sync

🔑 Connection Editing

In addition to editing mappings, you can now edit connections to Airtable and Webflow. On the edit base page, you will now see tabs for making these edits. From here you can update API keys and base sharing links.

🐞 Bug Fixes

Changing a field name could temporarily show an error

Previously, if you changed the name of a field in Airtable or Webflow, that could lead to some issues temporarily appearing on your Issues page. That is no longer the case.

Blocked accidental path to editing base with syncing turned on

Editing a base while syncing is turned on can cause problems. For this reason, the UI forces you to turn syncing off while making edits. There was a way you could accidentally get around this and potentially create errors. This is no longer possible.

Subscription Management (21)

📝 TLDR

We fixed a major bug that was breaking base editing for bases with large numbers of Airtable tables.

We took more steps toward self-serve with subscription management and an updates page.

💳 Subscription Management

You can now update your credit card and/or plan directly from Whalesync. Another step towards making Whalesync fully self-serve.

🆕 Updates Sidebar

Although we’ll continue to post updates here in Slack, you can now see the latest updates directly in Whalesync. If you click the Updates button in the sidebar it will open a widget will all our latest news.

🎥 YouTube video

We released our first YouTube video! This tutorial walks through the basics of Whalesync for anyone setting up their first sync.

🐞 Bug Fixes

Edit bases with >15 tables timed out

We fixed a gnarly bug that was breaking base editing if you that more than fifteen or so tables. Now you can have as many tables as you’d like and edit your base. Sorry this one took a while! It had some major tentacles in our code.

➡️ What’s Next

More self-serve features. Think things like API key editing. Additionally, we’re working on getting Airtable views out soon as well.

🐞 Fixed "Name" field bug

📝 TLDR

We fixed a bug that stopped users from setting up a base if they didn't have a field literally named "Name" in Webflow. Now you can name your Webflow fields whatever you like.

✏️ Base Editing & Docs (20)

📝 TLDR

Base editing is (finally) here! We also updated our Docs to make onboarding easier.

✏️ Base Editing

We’re excited to finally offer base editing! You can now change previously configured syncs instead of starting from scratch. Add or remove tables and fields to your previously configured base.

📘 Improved docs

Check it out at → docs.whalesync.com. Now includes tutorials and guides. We’ll be continuously updating this as the product evolves.

⚠️ Improved the usability of Issues

Key information pulled to the top of the details page (connector, times, impacted record). Added a contact link. More accurately named the second column.

🔄 Refresh tables/fields button

Added a button in the setup flow that lets you refresh tables/fields. Refresh will grab the latest tables/fields from Airtable and Webflow. Helpful if you’ve made changes to either app while in the middle of the setup flow

🐞 Bug Fixes

Issue details page 404s after issue is resolved

If you resolved an issue while you were on the details page, the page would show an error. Now that doesn’t happen.

➡️ What’s Next

Our high-level objective remains the same: improve self-serve! Over the next few cycles, we’re adding features that should make Whalesync easier to use on your own (if you choose). Look out for connection editing, Airtable view sync, and more.

⚠️ Issues Page (19)

📝 TLDR

We added an Issues Page that shows any errors impacting your sync, added support for Airtable Lookup fields, and fixed a lot of bugs.

⚠️ Issues Page

The Issues Page shows any errors that are impacting your sync. The main page includes the error message while the Details page gives more specific info. Once an issue is fixed, it will disappear from the Issues page.

🆙 Lookup field support in Airtable

You can now use Airtable Lookup fields as part of a sync. Like Formula fields, Lookup fields can be mapped to a variety of different Webflow fields. See our Docs for a full list of supported fields.

🐌 Remove Slug requirement

In the past, we required you to map a Slug field in order to set up a sync. You can now skip the Slug field and Webflow will auto-generate one for you.

🐞 Bug Fixes

Fixed the Calendar link on the Contact Us page

The calendar link on our Contact Us page was broken. If you tried to sync two tables with multi-reference fields that referenced each other it wouldn’t work.  Now it does.

Greater than 9 bases would overflow the footer

If you had more than 9 Whalesync bases, it would look strange on the frontend. Now you can have as many bases as you want.

Require primary key

Previously we would let you create a sync without mapping the primary key (often the Name field). This would guarantee a bad sync since Webflow requires a primary key. Now that’s not possible.

➡️ What’s Next

Starting with the Issues Page, we’re making a big push towards self-serve. We’ll always be available to jump in, but want to give everyone the tools to use Whalesync on their own if they prefer. This includes features like base editing, API key editing, and issue notifications. Additionally, we’ll enable 2-way sync soon, so changes in Webflow sync back to Airtable.

⚡ New Sync Engine (18)

📝 TLDR

We launched an overhauled sync engine that makes syncing wayy faster and more reliable.

🌟 New Features

Instant sync

  • Prior to this update syncing was pretty fast relative to 1-minute batch options like Zapier
  • Now syncing is lightning fast - most updates should appear in 5-10 seconds
  • Note- Airtable bases with large amounts of data may take slightly longer

Delete records support

  • If you delete a record in Airtable it will sync that delete to Webflow.
  • We now support all the major actions (creates, updates, and deletes).

Delete bases

  • You can now delete Whalesync bases
  • This is helpful if you’ve set up more than 1 base and don’t want your Dashboard to be cluttered
